When Oz Lotto is drawn

Oz Lotto is drawn every Tuesday. Sales close at 8:00 pm AEST, which is 6:00 pm AWST in Perth; during daylight saving it’s 9:00 pm AEDT in NSW, Victoria, the ACT and Tasmania. Lotterywest says the draw is available to watch by 7:30 pm AWST, and we copy its published result later the same evening.

How the numbers work

Ten balls come out of a barrel of 47. The first seven are the winning numbers and the last three are the supplementaries. You pick seven numbers per game. In the result card the amber balls are the supplementaries, and the line under the card lists all ten in the order they were drawn.

Supplementaries only matter in three divisions: Division 2 (six winning numbers and a supp), Division 4 (five and a supp) and Division 7 (three and a supp). The other divisions count winning numbers only.

Reading the dividends table

Each dividend is what one winning game receives. The winners column is the Australia-wide count, and the dividend is the same in every state. If nobody wins Division 1, the pool jackpots to next Tuesday; Lotterywest’s game guide says Oz Lotto starts at $4 million and grows each draw it isn’t won.

Some draws are Prize Boost events. According to Lotterywest’s guide, they lift Divisions 2 to 7 by 25% to 30% whether or not Division 1 is won, so a lower-division dividend can be noticeably higher than usual that week.

Buying a ticket for next Tuesday

The minimum entry is one game. Outside WA and Queensland, Oz Lotteries sells The Lott’s national games online as an authorised reseller; in WA, Lotterywest sells Oz Lotto in store, online and in its app.

Next Tuesday’s draw number and Division 1 offer are in the result card at the top. The odds of Division 1 are 1 in 62,891,499 per game, whatever the jackpot.

Claiming a prize

Online tickets are paid into your account automatically. With a paper ticket, scan it at any retailer’s ticket checker. In WA, prizes up to $500 are paid at any Lotterywest retailer, larger prizes at Lotterywest’s head office in Subiaco or by mail, and you have 12 months from the draw date to claim. In other states, the operator on your ticket sets the rules.
